Ready, Set, Go!

Friday, August 31

Okay, ready or not, here we go. . .

Everything's in line for the grand opening of the virtual doors to our new on line store at the cottage!

Please be sure and check it out beginning at noon on Saturday. Let us know if anything seems wonky.

Our little web Fairy has been working her magical little fingers to the bone to perfect every last detail. And for all her grand effort and generosity we are so very grateful. It's so nice to have such a lovely and talented friend. Snaps to you, Amy.

Saturday, August 25

In keeping with Linda's last blog entry we have brought the essence of all things Autumn into the cottage. We're deep in pumpkins, bittersweet and possibilities. . . I can almost smell the pumpkin pie! Having moved our oldest kids into their respective dorms, we are ready to embrace the changing of the seasons and our store is resplendent with what you need to layer your home with touches of Fall, our favorite season, a great time for nesting and making your home a little richer and warmer in color and texture. I promise to take pictures for my next entry to show you how we've changed up the shop. Many things have already slipped out the door with our customers so I think we're putting out just what you need. Stop in and see us. We look forward to seeing you.

Another transition we're gearing up for is our soon to debut on line store that our talented friend, Amy Powers of Inspire Company (http://www.inspireco.com/) is designing for us. We are so excited to get it up and running for those of you out there who have been virtual shoppers and such supportive fans of our finds. We will be able to offer some of our one of a kind vintage finds, handmade items and wonderful gift lines to you wherever you are! We are hoping to have it up and running by September 1.

More exciting news is that we are being mentioned in an upcoming addition of "Southern Ladies" thanks to Paige Stone. We're so very excited to see the shop in its first publication! (We are told they also own the soon to be reincarnated "Victoria Magazine", another one of our favorite publications.)(Last year we were asked permission to be included in a travel article about Leesburg, in Southern Living, but much to our disappointment there was not room for the mention, so we were cut. Nonetheless we were very excited to have been almost in Southern Living in our first year of operation!) And while I'm over here just tootin' away on our little horn, I'm proud to tell you that Barbara Jacksier (http://www.barbarajacksier.com/) has mentioned us in her list of resources in her new book about Cottages which is coming out soon. Can't wait to see that publication! It's got our name written all over it! Her next book will be about romantic homes. Sounds like one of those books you can't wait to pour over nestled in your favorite overstuffed chair with a soft throw over your lap and a cup of tea in hand. (Make mine a glass of Merlot, please.)

Happy PreFall,

I Love Fall!

Sunday, August 12

I don't know what it is. Maybe the scorching hot summer days we've had recently. Maybe the isles of fresh, bright, shiny school supplies in Target and Walmart (bringing a smile to every Mom about right now). Or maybe the subtle hint of warmer, jeweled toned clothing in the department stores. Fall is just around the corner!

I don't know about you, but I love the fact we live somewhere that has all four seasons. And they always come just in time, how perfect. I love something about all the seasons, but hands down, fall is my favorite. The vibrant colors, a fire in my fireplace, a big pot of soup on the stove, sweaters and the first cool night sleeping with the windows flung open and covers pulled up to my chin. Aahhhhhh, I love fall.

Ann and I have been busy hunting and gathering the greatest things for you this fall season. If you have the chance, stop by and visit-

Time to fly

Friday, August 10

I am writing with a heavy heart as I prepare to send off my firstborn to college. I am so very saddened at the thought of not having her around every day. I never thought it would be so hard. I figured we'd both be ready. But I don't think you ever know how you'll feel about something until you're experiencing it. I think we're both in an overwhelmed state of denial. Nonetheless, she'll be out of the nest next week.

And I know she'll have the time of her life.

And my heart will heal.

I'll enjoy some one on one time with my younger bird. And avoid thinking about the future for a little while.

For those of you who are also releasing your little birds. My thoughts are with you.
Take care,

Lookie here . . .

Tuesday, August 7

Linda and I just returned from a whirlwind buying trip and found lots of great things for the cottage. We hope to post some pictures of them for you soon. Here's a couple of shots of the shop before we left on our treasure hunt.
Hope your summer's going well.

Gone shopping!

Sunday, August 5

We're going on a little shopping trip tomorrow (Monday) and are closing the shop for the day. Be sure to come in next week to see all the new things we'll be bringing in!

In the meantime, take a gander at these ever so sweet pajamas! They just arrived. Dreamy!

Mr. Right are you out there?

Saturday, August 4

Okay, I told myself I would never do this. But, it seems like a reasonably easy task. I want to find a suitable suitor for my friend. She is an attractive, friendly, intelligent, educated woman. It shouldn't be hard to find a compatable sort for her, right? I want to go the conventional, old fashioned way. She's already tried the high tech way and it resulted in disaster. It made for great storytelling over a few glasses of wine, but it stopped there. And it wasn't for lack of trying. I think she reviewed 6 thousand profiles and the cream of the crop turned out to be an impotent, incontinent, overly frugal man whose ex wife suggested he stop seeing her. I guess it may work for some but not for my friend. I commend her for trying and putting herself out there. But let's face it, I know a whole lot of attractive, eligible women and very few men. They've got to be out there. But where are they?
I met my husband through friends. As a matter of fact we were good friends first before we started dating. That's my approach with this. I'd like to try and introduce my friend to men with whom I think she'd enjoy a friendship and the powers that be can take it from there.
Anyway, I'd love to hear from you if you have any thoughts or suggestions for me and my friend.
Wish me luck;)
